Trigeminal Neuralgia pain relief - does TENS work?
Traditional treatments of trigeminal neuralgia include numerous drugs such as carbamacepine, diphenyhydantoine, valproate or conazepame. In some cases nerve surgery is advised.
The other pain relief tool increasingly being used is TENS. It can be used along side exisiting treatments or by itself. It is non-invasive, drug-free and fast acting. Electrode Pads are placed on or near the area of pain. Sothing pulses that are sent via the pads, through the skin and along the nerve fibres. The pulses suppress pain signals to the brain. TENS also encourages the body to produce higher levels of endorphins and encephalins - the body's own pain killers!
